Lower Macungie garden plot rentals available

The Lower Macungie Library has suspended in-person services until further notice. Contactless pickup service is available. The book drop will be open 24/7 for book returns which must be made through the book drop. All returns are quarantined for seven days. Staff will be available by email and phone.

New at the library: eligible items will be automatically renewed on their due date. Notifications will be confirmed by email.

There will be a virtual Show and Tell Storytime 10:30-11 a.m. Feb. 18 for children ages 3-7 years. Siblings are welcome. After a story and song, there will be time for show and tell.

There is a Fabulous February Family Challenge. Choose a way to observe a celebration or holiday in February and send pictures and tell Miss Lisa how you celebrated by Feb. 27. A prize will be awarded.

There will be a virtual preschool storytime room available Feb. 22.

Lit Loot is offered for students in grades 6-12. Share your preferences with the library and they will select three library books and a few surprises to create a Lit Loot bag (one per month).

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. March 3 to discuss “A Long Petal of the Sea” by Isabel Allende. The book for April 7 is “A Woman of No Importance” by Sonia Purnell.

A teen do-it-yourself mug craft kit is available through Feb. 27. Online registration is required to reserve a kit. Pickup is by contactless appointment.

AARP TaxAide services will be limited and off-site this year. If your taxes were prepared at the library site within the last two years, a representative will contact you.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Those who rented plots last year can now renew their plot rental for 2021 through Feb. 26. Starting March 1, plots are available to rent on a first-come, first-serve basis. Contact the Lower Macungie Township Community Center for more information.

Lower Macungie Township is offering a Fruit and Veggie ABC Challenge through Feb. 28. Participants will try a fruit or vegetable beginning with each letter of the alphabet. The first 90 participants will receive an Lower Macungie Township water bottle and must register through the online portal.

Lower Macungie Township is planning Easter bunny Fun 9-11 a.m. March 27.

Lower Macungie Township offers live Zoom classes in belly dancing, Pilates, help for cramped hands, Living Room FUNkadelics, Tai Chi and children’s cooking.

The community center is open to the public while following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no free open gym at this time. Public restrooms are not available. Staff will be available by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 610-966-6924. The winter yard waste center hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. In March and April, the site will also be open noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
