Pennsylvania State Police-Troop M: Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle

An Allentown woman died Dec. 10 after being struck by a vehicle while she was walking on Race Street in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Eric D. Minnich, Rachael Patterson, 50, was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. The cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries due to a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident.

Pennsylvania State Police-Troop M, Bethlehem, officers were called to the scene just after 6 a.m.

According to the report, Patterson was attempting to cross Race Street, at Cascade Drive, when she was struck by a 2010 Ford Edge, driven by a 30-year-old male from Allentown.

Patterson was treated at the scene, then transported to St. Luke’s by Northampton Regional EMS. She died less than an hour after the accident, police said.

The driver was not injured.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated.
