Six Trojans make first team

While there weren’t many crossover games in East Penn Conference football this year, the Lehigh Division came home with its own batch of awards from this year’s all-star list, as Emmaus running back Brandon Camire was named offensive MVP and Central Catholic defensive tackle Lavon Johnson took home the honors on the defensive side of the ball.

Camire led the league with 15 touchdowns, rushing for 556 yards and 11 scores, and compiling 212 yards receiving yards and three touchdowns. He also had kickoff return for a TD.

Johnson helped lead Central to the District 11 Class 4A title with 59 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.

Parkland, which played just four league games in 2020, had six players named to the Lehigh County First Team. Senior guard Jakob Koren was the only Trojan who made the first-team offense, while teammates Garrett Fitzgerald (Sr., DE), Connor Neith (Sr., ILB), Jayden Sanchez (Sr., OLB), Isiah Rico (Sr., S) and Ty Tremba (Jr., punter) were all part of the Lehigh County First Team Defense. Parkland also had six selections to the second team, including two-way players Fitzgerald (OG), Rico (RB) and Tremba (QB).

In the Northampton Division, Freedom’s tenacious two-way lineman Braelin Moore took home MVP honors on the defensive side of the ball.

Moore, a junior defensive end and offensive tackle, had 21 tackles, 4.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries, as he helped lead Freedom to the District 11 6A championship game.

Nazareth senior quarterback Matt Bugbee was named MVP on offense, as he threw for 1,482 yards and 10 touchdowns, to go along with 229 rushing yards and 10 more scores, as the Blue Eagles finished 8-0 en route to their second straight district title. He was also named the league’s top kicker, after nailing 32 PAT’s and four field goals.

In Monroe County, East Stroudsburg South had hopes of a championship season before COVID ended the team’s run during the district tournament.

The Cavaliers, however, dominated the Monroe Division all-star list. ESS wide receiver Christian Sapp took home the MVP honors on offense and Stroudsburg’s Jace Tutty was named the defensive MVP at linebacker.

The Cavaliers had 19 players make the list in what was deemed one of their best teams in school history.

The following is a complete list of this year’s East Penn Conference football all-star selections.
