LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Review of ‘Geography, Geology, and Genius’ well written

To the Editor:

The review you recently published of the D & L National Heritage Corridor’s new book, “Geography, Geology, and Genius” by Martha Capwell Fox, was very well written. How many of your readers were aware that the Lehigh Valley was so prominent in developing the manufacturing strengths of this nation?

This one-of-a-kind book explores so much of our “forgotten” history, and is a fascinating read. The canal museum and a number of prominent local industries contributed many photos and maps to the publication, all of which help the reader to understand the changes through the decades.

The East Penn area became a major player in the industrial revolution of the nineteenth century, and we in the Lower Macungie Township Historical Society have interpreted aspects of its local significance through lectures and exhibits. We have a few remaining copies for sale in our museum of the book that is the subject of your review.

We are open in the upper barn at Camp Olympic 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays and welcome the opportunity to tell visitors about the ways in which this region fits in with the region’s industrial history.
