The Allentown Bomb Squad was called to Scherersville Park, Mauch Chunk Road, South Whitehall, on July 28 for the second time in two years.

According to South Whitehall Township Police Chief Glen Dorney,

“Someone found what appeared to be a pipe bomb at the pond area of the park, so we had the Allentown Bomb Squad come to the scene and render it safe.

“We got the call at 1:34 p.m. and located the suspected pipe bomb.

“This is the second device that was very similar to the one located in the water at the same location in the last two years,” he added.

Dorney said the incident is under investigation.
