Class of 2020 set to celebrate

The Catasauqua High School 2020 graduation ceremony is planned for July 25 at Alumni Field.

CHS Principal Adam Schnug shared instructions and information on the school’s Facebook page July 15.

The plan is to have students graduate over the course of four sessions, to allow for proper social distancing and adherence to safety guidelines. The sessions are 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m.

Each student will receive 10 tickets to distribute to family and friends. No extra tickets will be given. Guests will be seated on the football field, and seats will be spaced to allow for appropriate social distancing. The seats will be cleaned in between the graduation sessions. Masks are required.

The administration also wanted to remind guests the weather is expected to be hot, so students and other attendees should dress accordingly. The graduates are encouraged to dress comfortably under their robes; formal dress is not required.

Graduates and their guests are asked to exit quickly to allow for ample time to prepare for the next session.

According to the informational document, “We apologize in advance if graduates and guests feel rushed. Our goal is to celebrate our graduates’ success by watching them walk across the stage. We want everyone to experience this, so we ask you to be considerate of other sessions and exit as soon as possible.”

The senior class has purchased gifts for each member of the Class of 2020. Graduates can pick up their senior gifts from a table in front of the middle school at the end of each session.

Additionally, the ceremonies will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube page, CattySD YouTube, at youtube.com/channel/UCbhKCIQ_3_LahKm24HSMqZQ.

There will be a mandatory rehearsal 10 a.m. July 24 at the field for all students who are graduating. Masks must be worn at the rehearsal. Students will receive their tickets during this rehearsal.

To further celebrate the Class of 2020, there will be a parade of graduates 4 p.m. July 25. Students are asked to meet 3:45 p.m. in the high school parking lot. Cars should be decorated and ready to go.

The school district is working with Catasauqua Police Department to make sure the parade is done safely. More details will be released as they are finalized.

All plans for graduation are subject to change depending on restrictions and guidelines set by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.
