Freedom honors seniors Presto, Smith

More than 20 cars carrying Freedom’s varsity and junior varsity softball players and coaches formed a parade to honor seniors Makenzie Smith and Juliana Presto on May 9 at their homes.

“I think the girls were surprised,” said Freedom coach Michele Laubach. “I knocked on Makenzie’s front door, got back in the car, and then she came outside with her family. Juliana’s father got the family outside. It was a lot of fun.”

Later that evening, the Patriots met on Zoom with a video tribute to Smith and Presto which had been put together with music.

“It was pretty emotional because the parents joined the Zoom, so there were some tissues,” Laubach said.

Senior portraits are also in production as well as bracelets for the entire team.

Laubach explained that since the team was unable to get T-shirts with this year’s slogan, We Are One, because of the spring sports shutdown, My Intent bracelets with the same slogan are being made for all the players on this year’s team.
