Local band Brake for Turtles entertained July 24 as part of Catasauqua Borough’s summer concert series at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St.

Brake for Turtles’ energetic rock music provided a relaxing way to end the week and even brought some people to the dance floor in front of the amphitheater. Brake for Turtles not only sports an important environmental message, but they also play classic rock, soul, funk and country music. The attendance grew as the evening unfolded. Kids were having fun in the park and on the playground equipment, adults were playing pickleball, and young men played basketball while the music played.

Kristina Frey and Keith German, both of Bethlehem, sat side by side on one of the park benches that provided a bit of privacy under one of the many large trees on the park grounds. They said they enjoy visiting the park concert series to hear good music and enjoy a relaxing evening at the end of the work week.

Marlo, of Catasauqua and formerly from Newark, N.J., was joined by his very calm canine named Stable. He moved to the borough two years ago with his son due to a challenging heath issue.

“Catty is laid back,” Marlo said. “Newark was more busy.”

Jarrett Conbeer, of Catasauqua, was there with his pit bull Thor and an Italian mastiff named Ares.

Catasauqua High School basketball star Frankie Pujols and friend Alivia Kurczewski enjoyed the Cool Cat Ice Cream truck, operated by the affable Basem Bawady. Pujols and Kurczewski, both 2026 CHS graduates, plan to attend universities in the fall. Pujols will attend DeSales University to major in sports management and continue his basketball career. Kurczewski will be attending East Stroudsburg University to study finance.

It was a wonderful Friday evening of good music, tasty food, refreshing ice cream and a lot of friendship as attendees relaxed at a comfortable venue.
