WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Special to The Press

The community turnout for the senior parade at the South Mall June 9 was amazing! So many families lined the streets leading from Salisbury Middle School, all the way to the mall. And the idea to hand out cowbells and pompoms to the spectators was brilliant. It was so nice to see smiles on all the seniors’ faces as the crowd cheered for them as they drove by. Hats off to whoever came up with this idea and organized the whole thing. It was such a great way to celebrate this class that missed out on so much on the night that would have been their graduation ceremony. I loved it!

A decision will be made July 1 as to whether there will be an in-person graduation ceremony or a virtual one July 22.

I know a lot of residents were concerned there would not be physics classes offered at Salisbury High School after Paul Koba retired. But that is not the case; a posting has been listed on the Salisbury Township School District website for a part-time physics teacher. This is the same amount of physics classes there always was because Koba taught other classes during the school day.

Salisbury Township has reopened their public park facilities since we have now entered the yellow phase of COVID-19 restrictions. Tennis, basketball and pickleball courts are open for personal use only, by township residents. Organized sports or practices are still prohibited. The bathrooms and playground equipment are still closed.

A curriculum and technology committee meeting will be held virtually 7 p.m. June 22, with a school board meeting immediately following 7:30 p.m.

Salisbury Township drop-off centers are now open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
