Q & A... ...with Becahi’s Austin Druckenmiller

Austin Druckenmiller will be attending West Virginia University in the Honors College and will be majoring in Political Science with a minor in either Forensics or Criminology.

Q: Now that the news of the spring season being over has had time to sink in, what are your thoughts or emotions about not being able to play your senior year?

A: “I was really looking forward to playing this season and I was very upset when the PIAA canceled the spring sports season. My team and I put in so much work in the offseason to prepare and it was almost as if it was all for nothing. I would do anything for just one more game of lacrosse before high school is over.”

Q: What were you looking forward to the most this season?

A: “This season I was most looking forward to improving our record from last year. We did not win any games my junior year and it hurts knowing we cannot change that and improve during my senior year.”

Q: What activity do you find yourself doing the most during quarantine?

A: “While being at home during quarantine I find myself playing Madden the most.”

Q: What do you miss most about normal life?

A: “The thing I miss the most about normal life is my friends. I cannot see my friends now due to the stay at home order and it gets more boring every day at home doing the same things.”

Q: If you had the choice to be stuck at home with any teammate(s) during this quarantine, who would they be and why?

A: “Before quarantine started I would hang out with Jack McIntyre, Patrik Sidor, Kieran Measure, and Jacob Manhardt every day after school until practice started. I miss these guys and doing this every day before practice. I would choose these teammates to be stuck in quarantine with.”

Q: Can you name your favorite movie, show or series you’ve watched over the past month?

A: “I have been re-watching the Friday Night Lights series a lot since we have been out of school.”

Q: What’s the worst part about being stuck at home?

A: “The worst part about being stuck at home is that things get boring after a while Video games are only fun for so long and the same with playing with my brothers outside. I am just lucky enough to have two brothers to do things with when some people are all alone during this time.

Q: What’s the first thing you want to do once this quarantine is over?

A: “The first thing I want to do once quarantine is over is see and hang out with as many of my friends as possible. I will be going to college in a few months and may never see some of them again so I want to create as many memories that I possibly can before it is too late.”

Q: Can you tell your favorite sports story about yourself, your team or your teammates over the years?

A: “My favorite story from playing lacrosse was the time our team got into a fight with the team from Pleasant Valley. Cheap shots were going both ways during the game and nothing was called. Finally, a few kids got sick of the no-calls and punches were being thrown. The refs had to break it up and the game was called half way through the fourth quarter. A few kids were ejected from the game and could not play in the final game of the season. Looking back I wish things would have gone differently but it is still an entertaining story to tell.”

Q: What lesson(s) have you learned throughout this whole process?

A: “Throughout this whole process I have learned to never take what you have for granted. Cherish every day you have being able to live a normal life. Make as many memories as you can with those you truly care about because you never know what is going to happen.”
