Cards4Caring benefits ManorCare residents

Freedom softball coach Michele Laubach is keeping her Patriots in the game even though the spring sports season has been officially canceled by the PIAA.

Laubach’s father and Freedom player Corrin Gill’s grandfather are residents at ManorCare in Bethlehem where the Patriots’ varsity and JV softball players and the East Hills Middle School softball team are mailing handmade greeting cards to all 190 residents.

Cards4Caring is the name of the program, and each player made and sent 10 cards.

The teams also made a video called We are One which is currently posted on Twitter. It features Freedom and East Hills players in various softball stances and actions.

Coach Laubach also has an online game planned for the players called Kahoot! that will have questions relating to softball and questions relating to the players themselves.

This year’s varsity team includes two seniors, Juliana Presto and McKenzie Smith.

“We’re still planning something special for the seniors, and the Booster Club has been a big help,” Laubach said.

There are plans to have senior portraits done by local sports artist Robert McFetridge.

“We’re going to be keeping connected through the summer,” said Laubach, “and talk about a fall season.”
