Food drive to help people in the Palmerton area

As coronavirus-related closures continue to threaten people facing food insecurity, local organizations have put on dozens of food drives to help out.

Another one is taking place Tuesday, this time at Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Palmerton. The drive, which begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8, will include bags filled with nonperishable breakfast, lunch and dinner foods.

Kelli George, a church member who sits on its consistory board, said the drive-up operation will be available to anyone in the surrounding area. It will take place at the church, located at 545 Church Drive in the borough.

“Our mission as a church, as a whole, is to always help other people,” George said. “This is an opportunity that we have to do that.”

People who come to the drive are instructed to remain in their cars and wait for bags to be brought to them.
