Personnel respond to 2nd St. home fire

Catasauqua Fire Department responded to a fire in the 200 block of Second Street Feb. 24.

Neighbors reported smelling smoke outside around 10 a.m. Crews responded to an alarm around noon.

According to personnel, the owner of the building left for work earlier in the morning while the dryer was on.

The house was locked, so firefighters had to take proper action to enter and extinguish the flames. As a result, the door sustained damage. The basement was aired out, department members said.

Early reports escalated the alarm when crews were unable to access the building. There was a concern that someone was trapped inside the building. Mutual aid fire trucks responded quickly, blocking Second Street from Church Street.

Fire crews checked the adjacent properties to assure owners that no fire was smoldering in the wall cavities.
