Celebrating suffrage

LIBERTY BELL

The Liberty Bell Museum, 622 W. Hamilton Street, Allentown, will open its 2020 winter exhibit, “Our Rights and Nothing Else,” on Feb. 20.

The exhibit celebrates the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in the United States.

The opening will feature Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong, who will speak to the impact this movement has had on the decades since women’s voting was approved and ratified by legislators.

The exhibit is the result of a collaboration between the Liberty Bell Museum and the Lehigh County Chapter of the League of Women Voters.It features artifacts specific to the suffrage movement, including sashes, buttons, dresses, hats and other items used and worn by women fighting for the right to vote in the early 20th century.

Light refreshments will be served. Admission to the museum is free. Doors open 4:30 p.m. Armstrong’s presentation begins 5 p.m.

Parking is available on-street or at the community parking deck, 6th and Walnut streets.
