State Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th; state Rep. Steve Samuelson, D-135th; and the office of state Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, announced state funding totaling $859,257 was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects in Northampton County through the Local Share Account.

Local Share Account grants support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects.

North Catasauqua was awarded $145,219 to improve the area around the Delaware and Lehigh Trail along Main Street in the borough. More specifically, the funding will be used to construct a retaining wall to create suitable public space above the entrance to the trailhead.

“I’m pleased to announce the approval of these grants to help expedite important projects that will improve the quality of life and increase community safety throughout Northampton County,” Boscola said. “The ability for the state to provide needed funding to our local governments through Local Share Account grants is another demonstration of the positive impact gaming has had in the Lehigh Valley.”

The Northampton and Lehigh counties Local Share Account was established by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The funds are generated by the state’s gaming facilities and may be used for economic development, community development and public interest projects in Lehigh and Northampton counties.

“The Local Share Account has had a tremendous impact on enhancing public safety throughout the Lehigh Valley, and I am very pleased to see the CFA approve these much-needed grants for the city of Bethlehem and Northampton County,” Samuelson stated.

In addition to North Catasauqua, other areas receiving funding include Bethlehem, Palmer Township, Northampton County, Redevelopment Authority of Easton and Freemansburg, Glendon, Stockertown, Tatamy and West Easton boroughs.
