Robert “Whitey” W. Edelman, 91, of Cherryville, died Oct. 18, 2019, at the inpatient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Elsie A. (Steiner) Edelman for 69 years.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Robert F. and Pearl (Reinert) Edelman.
He was a 1946 graduate of Northampton High School.
He worked for the former National Portland Cement Company for 24 years until it closed. He later worked for 14 years on the road crew of Lehigh Township until he retired in 1989.
He was a member of Emmanuel’s Lutheran Church, Bath, where he was on church council and was an usher.
He was a member of Coplay Saengerbund. He was a 30-year volunteer at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, where he assisted with leading a worship and music ministry for the residents.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cynthia O’Brien and her husband Gary of Cherryville; two grandchildren, Jason O’Brien and his wife Marie of Orefield and Megan Coccetti and her husband Peter of Moore Township; five great-grandchildren, Gianna, Cameron, Madison, McKayla and Jaxen; two sisters, Irene Waltz of Northampton and Virginia Thompson and her husband David of Richmond, Va.; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mae Kovalchick.
