Senior center plans September events

Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 W Elm St., Allentown, is offering the following programs for seniors in September.

The following groups and disc jockeys will be playing oldies and requests at the Saturday and Wednesday dances, so come out and enjoy the music with friends.

Sept. 7, 18: The Henry King Duo

Sept. 21: Country Dance Band

Sept. 28: DJ Music Mix with Jerry Deane

Saturday dances will be offered 7-10 p.m. The Wednesday dance is from 1-4 p.m.

Per person fee includes light refreshments.

Singles and couples are welcome.

Instructor Trisha Baker will lead an arts and crafts class from 9-11:30 a.m. Sept. 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and 30.

“Tuesday Drop in Studio Art” led by Dolly Fleischmann will be from 9-11:30 a.m. and noon-12:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 17 and 24.

Fleischmann will also lead a “Friday Drop In Studio Art 9-11:30 a.m. Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Diamond Painting, based on the same concept as mosaics and paint by numbers, is led by Trisha Baker. This class is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Sept. 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and 30.

The senior center will be offering the following knitting, quilting and sewing classes:

Thursday Knit and Chat 9-11 a.m. Sept. 12, 19 and 26.

Work on a knitting, crochet or embroidered project while enjoying some conversation.

A Tuesday and Thursday quilting and sewing class for all skill levels is offered 8:30-1:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 12, 17, 19, 24 and 26.

The senior center will be showing the following movies at 12:15 p.m.:

Sept. 11: “Stan and Ollie.” This movie is about Laurel and Hardy who face an uncertain future as their golden era of Hollywood films remain long behind them.

Diminished by age, the duo set out to reconnect with their adoring fans by touring variety halls in Britain in 1953.

Sept. 25: “Rocket Man,” an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years.

Research your roots through Ancestry.com with Albert P. Heydt from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Dr. Charles Bonos will led a WWII History discussion titled “Convoy PQ17” 2-3:30 p.m. Sept. 18.
