E. Allen crash claims one life
A former Allentown schoolteacher was killed March 11 in a two-vehicle crash in East Allen Township.
Kathryn Anne Flom, 67, died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries, according to Northampton County Coroner Zachery Lysek.
While making a turn from Jade Lane onto Airport Road, Flom’s vehicle was struck by a tri-axle dump truck, driven by David Borger, of Kunkletown, Monroe County, who was traveling north on Airport Road, according to police. Jade Lane is an access road to the Victoria Square housing development.
The crash occurred just after 2 p.m.
After the impact, both vehicles came to rest in a field west of the intersection and near Dogwood Road.
A 45-year-old unnamed passenger in Flom’s car, a 2011 Cadillac, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, by Bethlehem EMS.
Borger was not injured, police said.
At press time, there was no official information on where Flom resided.
She is reported to have taught English in the middle and high school grades.
“Kathryn last taught at William Allen High School before she retired in June of 2007,” said Julie Benjamin, Allentown School District’s director of communications. “The staff here and the retirees are deeply saddened by her passing. She was well liked and dedicated to the school and her students.”
Police detoured traffic along Airport Road between Hanoverville Road and Locust Road and placed restrictions in the areas of Colony Drive and Snowdrift and Dogwood roads. The investigation is continuing, police said.
East Allen Township Fire Department and Northampton Regional EMS assisted state troopers at the scene.
