Katelyn Graver, a Northampton Area High School senior and an Ambassador Girl Scout with Troop 6637, Neffs, recently participated, along with other Girl Scouts from the eastern Pennsylvania region, in a World Thinking Day event at Union Lutheran Church, Neffs.

The day is a way to introduce Girl Scouts to significant women in history who helped change the world view of women.

This year, six notable women - Mary Anning, early British paleontologist; Christa McAuliffe, first schoolteacher on a space shuttle flight; entertainer Dolly Parton, a true rags-to-riches story; Eleanor Roosevelt, a voice for social reform in the mid-20th century; Oprah Winfrey, icon of the 21st century; and Ronda Rousey, Olympic medalist in judo, actress and mixed martial artist - were studied by the Scouts.

Each program was presented by Senior (ninth and 10th grades) and Ambassador (11th and 12th grades) Girl Scouts.

In all, more than 100 Girl Scouts attended the program, according to Megan Sciarrino, program coordinator for World Thinking Day and leader of Cadette Troop 6603.
