For anybody who has a birthday around the holidays, the same old question arises: “Do you like having a birthday so close to Christmas?”

Robbie Brensinger, an 11-year-old from Northampton, knows the answer all too well.

“Every year, we try to throw Robbie a birthday party. But it’s three days after Christmas,” Jessica Brensinger, Robbie’s mother, said.

Robbie, a fifth-grader at Siegfried Elementary School, has autism, which sometimes makes it harder for him to connect with kids his own age. His parents threw him a birthday party with the hopes that he could celebrate with some classmates by his side.

Unfortunately, though, nobody showed.

That’s when Eric German got involved.

German, a longtime friend of the Brensinger family, is an active motorcycle rider. When he heard about Robbie celebrating alone, he wanted to do something to help.

“I saw on Facebook that he celebrated his 11th birthday and none of his friends showed up,” German said. “I wanted to put something together.”

German posted a message about Robbie on Facebook and asked that other motorcycle community members get together to celebrate.

And the Riding for Robbie celebration plans were underway.

German and his fellow cyclists gathered Jan. 6 at Canal Street Park and traveled through the borough to the parking lot at Smith Lane and Lerchenmiller Drive. Robbie and his family were waiting.

Robbie was ecstatic, watching the line of motorcycles pass by in celebration of him.

“There is no better community than the motorcycle community,” German said.

The crew; his parents, Jessica and Robert; his grandparents; his siblings, Montana Rohrbach and Jace Brensinger; and even his school crossing guard sang “Happy Birthday” and presented Robbie with gifts.

“This is the best birthday ever,” Robbie said.

German and his crew pulled off an amazing day for Robbie, making him feel supported and loved.

“[The party] was to show him that he has a group of people who would go out of their way to show that we care,” German said.

Family members said they are extremely grateful for German and the rest of the community who came out to celebrate Robbie’s special day.

“Eric has done so much to keep the kids smiling. He does this for a lot of kids,” Robbie’s grandmother, Rebecca Boyle, said. “He is truly an angel on earth.”
