Northampton Exchange Club and Catasauqua Community Club will hold the 71st annual Bury the Hatchet dinner Nov. 20.

The dinner is in preparation for the Turkey Day football game played each year on Thanksgiving, which pits Northampton Area High School against Catasauqua High School.

This year, the dinner will start 6:30 p.m., with a cocktail hour before, at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave.

Coaches, athletic directors, principals and district superintendents are among the guests at the Bury the Hatchet dinner. The event, often similar to a roast, is full of good-natured barbs and jokes slung between districts, as well as predictions on the outcome of the game.

In addition to the dinner, other pregame rituals include pep rallies at district schools and powder puff games.

This year’s Turkey Day game will start 10 a.m. Nov. 22 at Alumni Field, Catasauqua. The dinner and game alternate each year between the two boroughs. This will be the 96th Turkey Day game between the NAHS Konkrete Kids and the CHS Rough Riders.

Northampton won 58 of those games and Catasauqua won 33. There have been four games ended in a tie. Northampton has won the past four years, and last year’s score was 46-19.
