Mako hosts senior expo
State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, invited senior citizens and their families to a senior expo Sept. 14.
This free event was held at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 675 Blue Mountain Drive, Cherryville, and hosted more than 70 local, state and federal agencies and organizations directed toward the needs of senior citizens. Companies such as LANTA Bus transportation services, SeniorLIFE life insurance, Good Shepard Rehabilitation Center and more attended the expo to inform senior citizens about the services they have to offer.
Mako said he has worked hard to ensure members of the community are reminded of the wonderful organizations and companies they can be a part of in the district. He believes the senior expo has benefited the area immensely.
“This is an event to push info out to seniors, so they know what programs are available to them,” Mako said.
“We have programs to get them food, get them flu shots, teach them safe driving and more,” Mako added. “They might not be aware of what is available to them.”
It is important senior citizens everywhere are aware of the advantages put in place for their benefit while also getting the opportunity to interact with other members of their community, Mako stressed.
Steve Strella, a legislative aide in Mako’s office, has also recognized the advantages this event has had.
“This event is extremely positive while we are here,” Strella explained. “People follow up with us after the event, and we are happy with the feedback.”
The turnout of this event demonstrated just how important these senior expos are. Mako said his efforts have helped many senior citizens stay informed and involved with those around them.
