David J. Schumacher
David J. Schumacher, 76, of Emmaus, died peacefully June 6, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He and his wife Victoria A. Cerulli were together for 25 years. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Jacob and Kathryn (Williams) Schumacher.
He graduated from Central High School, Scranton and Susquehanna University in 1964. While at Susquehanna he was president of his fraternity, Theta Chi.
He was a certified public accountant in Philadelphia for Ernst and Whinney which became Ernst and Young. After moving to Allentown he was a certified public accountant and manager of Ernst and Young, Allentown. In 1980 he opened David J. Schumacher CPA, retiring in 2006.
He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for four years.
He espoused professionalism, integrity and experience, all of which earned him the respect of his peers and community.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Allentown and served on the Council of Churches.
He was a long time member of Lehigh Country Club where he enjoyed golf and socializing. He earned several league championships while at Lehigh.
After retirement he enjoyed reading, watching and feeding wild birds, completing jigsaw puzzles with his wife, his tropical fish, music, classic movies and the Jersey shore.
He is survived by his wife; children: Lauren and her husband Sean Will, of Allentown, Pete (Paige), of Midlothian, Va. and Mark (Ashley), of Emmaus; brother, Ret. Brig. Gen. William; sister, Janet and her husband Anthony Graves, of Scranton; former wife, Barbara (Claffee); grandchildren: Morgan, Sarah, Katie, Jake and Matthew; sister-in-law, Mary Ann and her husband Nick Balascki; nieces and nephew: Caryl, Leslie, Jane and Nicholas, loving dog Ace. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Sandra.
