Whitehall-Coplay School District bestowed the 2018 Zephyr Graduates of Distinction Award to four individuals at an award ceremony April 19.

The honorees were Deborah G. Hagenauer, Class of 1979; Dr. Paula Radon Regan, Class of 1987; CDR Kenneth Lieberman, Class of 1992; and Heather L. Miller, Class of 2002.

These alumni were honored for their personal and professional achievements that have made significant contributions to their field of endeavor and to society. The nominees must have graduated 10 years prior to nomination unless deceased, must have excelled in his/her career or made an outstanding contribution to society and must be nominated for achievements in academics, music, arts, civic or military service, community service or a significant personal achievement.

Hagenauer attended Lehigh Carbon Community College and DeSales University. She began figure skating at age 11 and was appointed a judge in 1980. Since then, she has attained the highest level of judging in figure skating.

Hagenauer served as a judge at nine U.S. national figure skating championships, eight sectional figure skating championships and 22 regional figure skating championships. She was honored by the United States Figure Skating Association for 35 years of voluntary service.

She traveled to Canada, Croatia, Germany and the Netherlands as a team leader for the U.S. Figure Skating Team. She was a U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist in figures and ice dance.

In addition to her skating efforts, Hagenauer volunteered with Union West End Cemetery, Allentown, and with Day of Caring. She works as an IT training specialist and lives in Allentown.

Radon Regan attended the University of Pittsburgh and Medical College of Pennsylvania. She is a board-certified OB/GYN physician. She is a co-founder of the Comprehensive Gynecology Center in Maryland and is certified in DaVinci robotic surgery and aesthetic laser treatment.

She is a member of the Annapolis Maritime Museum and Park, the Annapolis SPCA and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Regatta Sailing Committee and is a U.S. Naval Academy sponsor parent.

She received What’s Up Annapolis Magazine’s Top Doc Award four times. She lives in Annapolis, Md.

Lieberman attended Ohio State University and Naval Postgraduate School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1994 as an electronic warfare technician and currently serves as commanding officer on the USS Milwaukee.

He served on the Secretary of the Navy’s staff as a White House liaison officer and attended National Defense University Joint Forces Staff College. He completed a one-year tour in Baghdad, Iraq.

He received a Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and Navy Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He received a Meritorious Service Medal twice and Navy Commendation Medal four times.

He has volunteered as Scoutmaster for local Boy Scout troops, Habitat for Humanity and Ronald McDonald House.

He will be retiring from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service.

Miller attended American Military University and Pennsylvania State University. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2002 to 2010.

She earned a military occupational specialty in motor vehicle operations and logistics vehicle systems operations. Miller was selected to join the Marine Security Guard and was awarded Golf Company Marine of the Quarter while stationed in Togo, Africa.

She was assigned to provide protection to American dignitaries and politicians in Beijing, China, and Argentina. While serving at the American Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic, she assisted with food drives and Toys for Tots programs at a local orphanage.

Upon leaving the Marine Corps, she worked as a medical support assistant while earning a technician certificate from the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Arizona.

She currently works as an administrator for the Cardiology Clinic-Phoenix Veterans Administration Medical Center in Arizona.

There are three to six individuals inducted each year; however, nominations remain active for five years.

The selection committee consisted of Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong, retired teacher; Nancy Buckno, Judy Ott and Cheryl Sommer, all retired teachers and community members; Joyce Wheeler, co-chairperson and former school board member; and Dr. Barbara Chomik, co-chairperson and facilitator.
