Swimmers lose to Easton, prep for District 11 meet
The Northampton varsity girls and boys swimming and diving teams ended their 2017-2018 season with an away meet at Easton High School on Thursday, Feb. 15.
Though the meet ended in a loss for both the girls and boys, overall the season was a success with a winning league record and sights now set on district championships.
Some of the highlights of last Thursday’s meet included a first-place finish by Northampton’s DJ Fragano in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.87. Fragano also swam a tough race in 100 butterfly but was just edged out with a second-place finish by only seven-tenths of a second. Also contributing to the Northampton point totals, Jack Kennedy finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.15. Northampton’s Ben Christy also dove for a third-place finish in the diving event.
Overall the Northampton boys ended their regular season with a 63-39 loss to Easton.

With a strong season behind them, Northampton is turning its focus to the District 11 championship meet. The Kids will send 12 swimmers to championships this year. This includes seven from the girl’s team and five from the boy’s team. Individual qualifications include the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly to name a few.
Northampton will also send their relay teams to compete in the district championship relay events.
“It was a great season with lots of individual bests and greatly improved times,” said Northampton’s Jack Kennedy. “Now it’s all about preparing for districts.”
The PIAA District 11 Championship meet will be held on March 2 and 3 at Parkland High School.
