Scisly steps down as head football coach

Northampton football coach Mark Scisly has stepped down from his position after four years at the helm of running the Kids football program.

Scisly submitted his resignation on November 28, days after Northampton defeated Catasauqua 46-19 on Thanksgiving.

During Scisly’s tenure, the Kids compiled a 12-36 record, going 0-32 in the EPC South.

Northampton finished this season 4-8, but showed signs of improvement battling in a close loss to Freedom (26-13) and registering wins over East Stroudsburg North, Pleasant Valley, Pottstown and Catty.

“It was a pleasure working with Mark for the past three years at Northampton,” said athletic director Shaun Murray. “Over that time, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for Mark as a football coach and as an educator and we would like to thank Mark for everything he has contributed to the Northampton football program.”

The application deadline for the head coaching position is Dec. 22, 2017. Murray said the interview committee would like to hopefully recommend a candidate to the school board by the end of January.

“We are looking for someone who is committed to guiding our student-athletes in the development of successful football program on the field and in the classroom,” said Murray about what he’s looking for in a new candidate.

Northampton hasn’t had a winning season since 2008, but things could change next year, as the program hopes to join the EPC North for football. A league vote on the matter is expected on Dec. 13. A move to the north would certainly boost Northampton’s win totals, as well as the overall confidence in the program.
