Pair of Aces
On Monday Ben Tetzlaff joined an exclusive club in the world of golf. Then about an hour later he became one of the club’s most exclusive members.
The Parkland senior hit his first career hole in one during a practice round at Iron Lakes. Four holes later he hit another one.
“It was surreal, amzing and shocking, really,” he said. “I still can’t believe it and I’m the one who did it.”
Tetzlaff, whose been playing the game for just five years, got his first ace when he launched a gap wedge to a 104-yard flag on No. 2 at Iron Lakes and landed it just behind the hole.
“It spun back,” said Tetzlaff. “I saw the ball disappear and I didn’t know if the ball went in the hole or disappeared behind the pin. My friend (Parkland teammate John Anglella) sprinted up to the green and I sprinted up behind him. I was screaming ‘Did that go in?’”
Four holes later, Tetzlaff came to the sixth hole and pulled a nine iron to a 140-yard hole on the back of the green.
This time, the ball landed short and took a bounce toward the flag.
“It was on the perfect line,” he said. “It landed four yards short of the hole and took one bounce and disappeared. Once again my friend sprinted up around the water. And he beat me there. He saw the ball was in the hole and I fell to my knees like ‘what the heck just happened.’”
Tetzlaff returned two Iron Lakes a day later and shot 78 to help his team beat undefeated Emmaus. He will play in next week’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Championships and the upcoming Lehigh Valley Amateur. He’s also hoping to get into the district qualifier in October.
