Eagles bring D-1 receiver in Dotson
Week one of the high school football scene was a good one for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South division. All nine teams were victorious, and won their respective games by double digits. Only one of nine cross-division game was decided by fewer than 31 points.
Parkland shutout Allen 49-0 and now prepares for a Nazareth team that surprised many by their dismantling of Pleasant Valley 50-10 in the opener last Friday night.
This Friday Parkland takes on a Nazareth team with a young offense that has some inexperienced players. But the focal point of the team is a player returning to Nazareth after a year at the Peddie School in New Jersey.
Senior wide receiver Jahan Dotson left after his sophomore season, but has returned for his senior year. He has multiple Division I scholarship offer and is considered to be one of the top wideouts in the state.
Dotson finished the game against the Bears with eight catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns, the first one came on the first offensive play of the game for the Blue Eagles. He is the leader and the go-to option for Nazareth.
“They have an explosive offense and they get the ball off quick to avoid the pass rush,” Parkland head coach Tim Moncman said. “Dotson is the best receiver I have coached against in my career.”
The Trojans secondary was not challenged against Allen, but they will have their hands full with the school’s all-time leading receiver. Dotson also plays defense, and came away with two interceptions last weekend.
He does it all, and if Parkland is going to be successful in their home opener Friday night, it will need to contain the speedster. Nazareth starts a new quarterback in sophomore Anthony Harris, who completed 18-of-29 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Pleasant Valley.
“Our front four has to get a push and we have to pay extra attention to Dotson in all aspects of game, including special teams,” said Moncman. “It’s going to take a complete team effort.”
The Trojans have had recent success against the Blue Eagles, but they have always given them fits, and forced them to play to the final whistle.
Parkland used the ground game early and often against Allen because of the lopsided score, and look for more of that with senior running back Jahan Worth leading the way.
Expect senior quarterback Michael Ruisch to attempt more than just two passes he had last weekend.
Nazareth’s Zac Keifer had six catches for 58 yards and a score, and Kyle Paccio carried the ball 13 times for 73 yards and a touchdown for the Blue Eagles in a well-balanced attack.
The Trojans will look to begin the season with two straight victories for the second year in a row in their home opener Friday night at Parkland School District Stadium.
