Liberty holds annual signing ceremony

Liberty held its annual press conference for senior student-athletes heading to college this fall on April 21, as 32 Hurricanes were represented in this year’s class.

The signing ceremony has been a yearly event at Liberty, highlighting the core of Liberty’s top athletes heading to the next level.

Football standout Jaohne Duggan made his decision to commit to Rutgers last summer and he’s never looked back on his decision after enjoying a stellar senior campaign, which saw him land on first-team East Penn Conference honors at defensive end, as well as first-team All-State.

“I’m just excited to get down there,” said Duggan about heading to Rutgers. “I might start heading down for workouts at the end of May. I can’t wait to play college football. I know they’ll probably move me around a little bit between defensive tackle and defensive end my freshman year, but I hope I can get a good amount of playing time.”

Duggan is one of two Hurricanes to commit to FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) schools, as wide receiver Darian Street is heading to the University of Pittsburgh.

He’ll have some company there, as defending state champion track sprinter Jaylyn Aminu will become a Pitt Panther as well.

“I felt very home when I went there and the coaches had a set plan on what they wanted from me,” said Aminu about ultimately choosing Pitt. “I have some other friends that are going to Pitt too, which is why it’ll feel like home too.”

Aminu is a three-time state medalist in the 100 meter and won the 3A state title last season. She’s been nursing a heel and tibia injury this season so far, but is resting up for a postseason run to another hopeful gold medal.
