Grace E. Baker

Grace E. Baker, 91, of Allentown, died March 8, 2017, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.

Born in Greenwich Township, she was the daughter of the late Chester U. and Carrie (Derr) Kramer.

She and her late husband, Mark G. Baker, met as children while living on neighboring farms in Krumsville, and became high school sweethearts.

They married in in 1943, in Sherman, Texas, while he was serving in the U.S. Army.

They enjoyed 30 years together until his sudden death while answering a fire call with the Cetronia Volunteer Fire Company in 1973.

For 44 years, she has kept his memory close to her heart.

She worked for Kraft Foods, Fogelsville, from its opening until her retirement in 1982.

Prior to that, she was a seamstress in Allentown for many years.

A proud 1943 graduate of Kutztown High School, she graduated in 1955, as a practical nurse from Bryan Nursing School, Allentown.

She was a member of Cetronia Senior Citizens and Mt. Zion Senior Friends.

Formerly, she had been a member of the Kutztown Lioness, the New Temple chapter of Eastern Star, and a volunteer at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Many decades ago, she had been one of the early ambulance attendants for Cetronia Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

In addition, she was a longstanding member of Cedar United Church of Christ, Cetronia.

She enjoyed gardening, travel, music and reading, but above all, she loved and cared for children.

Her survivors include her daughter Virginia G., wife of Raymond B. Willcox of Allentown; son David M. Baker and wife, Christine Petraglia, of Southwick, Mass.; brother Paul C. Kramer and his wife, Betty, of Coplay; grandchildren Thomas J. Willcox and wife, Jan, Stephen M. Baker and Jessica M. Baker; and great-grandchildren John P. and Emily J. Willcox; and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 9-10 a.m. March 18 at Keller Funeral Home, 1018 Church St.,Fogelsville.

Services will start 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Schleicher officiating.

Interment will be in New Bethel Zion Cemetery.
