Sept. 29 High School Sports Roundup

Despite rain in the area it was still a busy day for Lehigh Valley Press sports teams on Thursday, Sept. 28.

BOYS SOCCER

Pleasant Valley-Northampton

The Konkrete Kids beat the Bears 2-1 in overtime.

Ryan Kennan and Tyler Andrews scored unassisted goals for Northampton. Kelvy Gomez netted Pleasant Valley’s game-tying goal in the second half.

In goal, Morgan Heffelfinger stopped four shots for the Kids, who out-shot the Bears 5-3. Brad Brickman stopped one shot for the Pleasant Valley.

Freedom-East Stroudsburg North

The Patriots beat the Timberwolves 8-1.

Freedom goals were scored by Cordell Corlette (2), Chuck Tichy (2), Curtis Brewer, Bradley Turocy, Zachary Shay and Zachary Fereno. Assists went to Brewer (3), Corlette (2), Xavier Garces, Michael Silva and Andrew Youwakim.

Patriot goal keeper Zach Rafino made two saves in the game.

Freedom won the JV game 2-0.

East Stroudsburg South-Parkland

The Trojans beat the Cardinals 5-0.

Parkland goals were scored by Justin Douglas, Owen Iacobelli, Conley Hochstetler, Peter Kwakye-Ackah and Dawson Berger. Assists went to Kwake-Ackah, Berger, Iocobelli and Zayer Imam.

Whitehall-Allen

The Canaries beat the Zephyrs 4-1.

Allen goals were scored by Anibal Mendez (2), Rolando Nunez and Edward Barrera.

Whitehall’s goal was scored by Zahir Linton with and assist from Mohamed Abdalla.

Bailey Luckenbill stopped six shots in the Zephyr net.

Pine Grove-Salisbury

The Falcons beat the Cardinals 5-1.

Salisbury goals were scored by Ethan Heydt (2), Mason Groff (2) and Collin Fairchild. Assists went to Patrick Adams (2), Heydt and James Hadinger. Falcon goal keeper Tyler Keller made five saves.

Salisbury improved to 12-0-1 overall.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Whitehall-Parkland

The Trojans beat the Zephyrs 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17)

Sam Graver had 14 kills, six digs and 13 service points for Parkland. Morgan Sherwin (11 kills, 5 digs, 22 assists), Mia Jago (7 kills, 5 blocks) and Megan Shaw (9 digs) all contributed to Parkland’s win.

The Trojans won the JV game 2-0.

Central Catholic-Emmaus

The Hornets beat the Vikettes 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 23-25, 25-22).

Georgia Traynor had 11 kills, 12 digs and three aces for Emmaus. Alyson Bohman (8 kills, 4 digs), Macy Van Den Elzen (15 kills), Adelina Rivera-Woolard (13 kills, 3 block), Caroline Bond (39 assist, 17 digs), Rebecca Dalstad (11 digs) and Tiffany Hoppes (21 digs) also contributed to the Hornet win.

Central Catholic won the JV match 2-0 (25-23, 25-20).

Northampton-Nazareth

The Blue Eagles beat the Konkrete Kids 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22)

Maria Harding had 11 kills, 15 digs and two aces for Nazareth.

Northampton took the JV game, 2-0 (25-23, 25-22).

Liberty-Freedom

The Hurricanes downed the Patriots 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-22).

Hailey Silfies had five kills and five blocks for Liberty. Teammates Julia Roman (8 digs, 4 kills), Bryana Straker (5 kills, 4 blocks) and Courtney Turocy (14 assists, 4 digs) also contributed to the win.

Northwestern Lehigh-Notre Dame (GP)

The Crusaders beat the Tigers 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-9).

Kayla Vaught had six kills, three blocks and four aces for Notre Dame. Jess Appleton had six kills and four blocks, while setter Kylene Bain dished out 26 assists.

GIRLS SOCCER

Northampton-Pleasant Valley

The Kids beat the Bears 1-0.

Northampton’s Breaunna Colonna-Dotter scored the game-winner on a penalty shot in the second half.

Pleasant Valley’s Mikaela Miller made four saves, while the Kids’ Gabrielle Demchak stopped five shots.

Parkland-East Stroudsburg South

The Trojans beat the Cardinals 5-0.

Parkland goals were scored by Brooke Schutter, Rachel Laird, Gia Litz, Ava Schaller and Taylor Fasnacht. Assists went to Devyn Anderson, Rachel Medlar, Becca Ventura and Jenna Leonzi.

Parkland improved to 11-0 overall and 10-0 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.

FIELD HOCKEY

Salisbury-Palmerton

The Blue Bombers beat the Falcons 2-1

No other information about the game was received by the Press.

Southern Lehigh-Catasauqua

The Spartans beat the Rough Riders 5-0.

Southern Lehigh goals were scored by Bryan Hughes (3), Lauren Jani and Meghan Reese.

Northampton's Breaunna Colonna-Dotter (19) scored the game-winning goal for the Kids field hockey team Thursday afternoon.
