Freedom QB Young poses a dual threat

Parkland followed its Week 3 loss to Liberty with a road over a one of its biggest rivals. Trojans met Easton head on and shut them out on their home field 28-0 to go to 3-1 in an important Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory..

The running game was again was a focal point of the offense, and led by senior Nick Suriel (64 yards, TD) and junior Jahan Worth (172 yards, 2 TDs), Parkland put in a complete game effort and will need another this week against another team with just one loss on its record.

Freedom (3-1) enters the game with momentum after a 34-7 victory against Northampton last Saturday. The Patriots lone loss on the year was a 28-21 setback to Easton two weeks ago.

“We know they lost to Easton, who we obviously just beat,” said Moncman. “But the league is so competitive. Anything can happen on any given night, and we have to be ready Friday night.”

Freedom features a three-year starter at quarterback in Joe Young. Young missed the game last two years that these teams played because of an injury, so the defense hasn’t seen him in live action. Young threw for a touchdown last week, but the game was dominated on the ground. Daushaun Peterson rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns.

“We’re going to have to be ready for anything,” Moncman said. “They can beat you through the air or on the ground. Joe Young is a great quarterback, but they also have a good tailback as well. We will have to be focused on defense.”

The winner at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium Friday night will be in a good position at the midway mark of the season towards reaching the goal of a league title.
