The Parkland golf team is 11-2 this season with just over a week left in the season.
The Trojans host Bethlehem Catholic on Thursday and face Emmaus Tuesday in a match that could determine which team earns a place in the District 11 team tournament.
Emmaus (12-1) is second in the district Class 3A rankings, behind undefeated Nazareth. Parkland is just behind and slightly ahead of Central Catholic (10-1) and Blue Mountain (10-1) in ratings points. A win over Emmaus would likely ensure Parkland a berth into districts. A loss would not eliminate the Trojans, but it would surely make the final two places much closer with Central likely jumping into third place in the district rankings.
The Trojans beat Liberty yesterday 415-450. Ben Hambel, a senior and first-year varsity golfer shot the low round of the match with a 77. Teammates Alec Cwienkala (80), Ben Tetzlaff (84), Kevin Zimerman (86) and JC Grimm (88) rounded out the team scoring.
The Trojans beat East Stroudsburg South last week 394-387. Cwienkala shot 74 with Hambel at 75 and teammates Jake Nimeh (78), Chris Panny (82) and Michael Gombos (85) completing the team’s top five.
Parland beat East Stroudsburg 400-624 recently. Kevin Zimmerman and Chris Panny led the Trojan effort with 78s. Hambel shot 80 in the match, while Tetzlaff and John Panny each carded an 82.
The Trojans beat Pocono Mountain West back on Sept. 1, 428-538 at Pocono Farms Country Club. Cwienkala shot 82 for Parkland with Tetzlaff at 84, followed by teammates Hambel (86), Zimmerman (87) and John Panny (89). The Panthers’ Tom Gaudette fired the low round of the match with an 80
