Kriz puts his name in Vassar College record books

Vassar College senior Reno Kriz recently capped a historic season for the school’s men’s volleyball team. The former Trojan finished the spring season with 385 kills, 147 digs and 68 blocks. His 358 kills wasn’t just tops on the team, but that ranked him third amongst all United Volleyball Conference (UVC) competitors. Kriz finished his career with 1,352 kills (third in Vassar history) and school records in attack attempts (3,381), sets played (426) and matches played (125).

Damin Muth, a junior first baseman at Bloomsburg University, started in 44 of the team’s 46 games this season. In being selected to the PSAC East Second Team, Muth batted .338 with 46 RBIs (second on team) and 38 runs scored (third on team). His fielding percentage of .991 was right near the top of the Huskies’ list as well in 2016. Bloomsburg finished the season 23-23 (10-18 in PSAC East).

University of Colorado freshman Sophia Castillo made a name for herself on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) stage in her first collegiate season. The 2015 Parkland graduate scored 10 goals for the Buffaloes (ninth on the team) in 14 games this past season. She also added two assists in helping Colorado advance to the MPSF tournament semifinals against Stanford.

Chestnut Hill College sophomores Dylan Klusaritz and Josh Pope, two former Trojan lacrosse players, recently completed impressive seasons in the spring. Klusaritz, an attacker for the Griffins, tallied 27 goals and 14 assists. Both stats ranked second on the team. As a midfielder, Pope also left a mark on the team by scoring six goals, adding four assists, and recording 19 ground balls (fifth on team).

Mackenzie Galli, a freshman midfielder on the VCU lacrosse team, played in all 17 games for the Rams in 2016. She finished the season with 10 goals (sixth on team), two assists and 11 ground balls.

Arizona State freshman pitcher Connor Higgins saw time in relief of 13 of the Sun Devils’ games this season. As part of a solid relief unit, Higgins struck out 10 batters in 12.2 innings while posting a 4.97 ERA. Arizona State finished the year with 36 wins, falling in the NCAA Regional Tournament against TCU.

Delaware Valley College sophomore Kelly Gruber started in all 31 games in the infield this spring. The former Trojan batted .240 in a team-high 104 at-bats and scored a team-best 23 runs. She also finished the year with a .930 fielding percentage, a .317 slugging percentage, 10 RBIs and just five strikeouts.

In his inaugural season at Shippensburg University, Gabe Mosser was named the PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Year after he went 6-2 with a 5.21 ERA in 2015. Mosser saw his innings decline a bit this past season to 36.2, but he was still a key piece to the Raiders’ success.
