Northampton pitcher Taylor Keeney’s drop curve was working just fine, but the K Kids bats provided only three hits and no runs in a 2-0 loss to Nazareth on Tuesday.
“It looked like a lack of energy, and I’m not blaming it on the Whitehall loss because we had a good practice yesterday, but we didn’t have good pitch selection, and Nazareth didn’t make the mistakes they made the first time we played them,” said Northampton coach Kevin Mann.
The Blue Eagles came out swinging in the first and second innings, which was when they scored each of their runs.
“We needed to win this to get into leagues, and it’s the first time we haven’t since I was a freshman,” Keeney said. “I don’t know if it’s because we had a lot of time off. I felt good, but I feel like our team, as a whole, was a little flat.”
Hits for Northampton were made by Auria Enright, Maura Moser, and Heather Alich, none of which were in the same inning.
Nazareth proceeded to gather four more hits, but Northampton’s defense prevented the Blue Eagles from doing any further damage.
“I’m very happy where we’re at,” said Nazareth coach Tony Cocca. “The team is our strength. Not one piece of the puzzle is more important than the other. We want to be the hottest team going into districts.”
