Tennis competes at EPC, district tourneys

Northampton’s Tom Reinhard won his opening round match in the District 11 Tournament which started on Monday.

Reinhard took a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Pottsville’s Collin Williams which set up a second round match against Liberty’s Dan Lynn. Lynn would knock off Reinhard 6-0, 6-1, setting up a quarterfinal round match against Freedom’s Aidan Bodeo-Lomicky, who Lynn just defeated in the opening rounds of the East Penn Conference tennis tournament which started last Thursday.

Overall, the top-eight seeds advanced to the district quarterfinals, led by top seed Matt Fitzmaurice of Emmaus.

District action resumes Wednesday afternoon at Parkland with the finals scheduled for Friday at Winning Touch at 12:30 p.m.

The EPC tennis tourney was supposed to continue on Saturday but was canceled because of rain and will conclude on Monday, May 2, at Pocono Mountain East High School.

The Kids had a couple of victories in the EPC tourney, but did not have anyone advance to the quarterfinals when play resumes.

At number three singles, Andrew Hozza won a pigtail match over Jonathan Romero of Allen but would fall to Nate Tauber of Nazareth.

In doubles, the number-three team of Noah Neyer and Scott Schmidt won their opening round match over Dominic Viscomi and Tyler Fitch of Easton, but would run into the top seed of Kishan Unjia and Alex Son of Parkland.

The number-four team of Ethan Schwaartz and Anthony Fronte found a similar fate. They won their opening round match against Hunter Watts and Mike Guarino of Eastburg North before falling to top-seeded Jesse Hance and Bokai Chao of Parkland.
