The Emmaus wrestling team competed in Saturday’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Championship Day.

The Hornets (13-7 overall, 5-4 EPC) finished in third place in Division A. They matched up against Liberty, the third place team from Division B, on championship day.

Liberty won 11 of the 14 matches while getting pins in four of them to come away with a 46-14 victory.

Emmaus’ Dan Oberle and Lucas Schaf pinned their Hurricane opponents. Matt Hamati got his team’s only other win, which came by decision.

The Hornets faces Pocono Mountain West last week to end the regular season. They beat the Panthers 45-31.

Earning Emmaus pins against West were Peyton Brown, Justis Walton, Hamati, Oberle and Craig Delany. Other Hornets wins came from James Bowie (forfeit), Tyler Corpora (major decision) and Lucas Schaf (techical fall).

The Hornets move on to the District 11 Class 3A team tournament as the No. 8 seed. They face No. 9 Freedom Thursday at Pottsville’s Martz Hall in a preliminary match. The winner moves on to a match up against top-seeded Pottsville. The loser is eliminated from the tournament.
