For the last four years, Parkland sports fans were enjoyed the privilege of having Kristin Krause as the setter of the girls volleyball team.

Krause ended her high school career last week by helping her team to its second straight PIAA state championship, which was one of many titles the team has captured over the past four years.

Krause leaves as one of the most highly decorated players in the history of the program. In 2015, she was named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year as the best high school volleyball player in the state. Other accolades include EPC First-Team, District 11 MVP, First-Team All-State, Under Armour First-Team All-American, Prep Volleyball National Senior Player of the Year Finalist, Maxpreps First-Team All-American, Prep Volleyball All-American, and a nominee for the Andi Collins Award, which recognizes the best setter in the country.

But when bringing up all of that hoopla, she’ll change the subject rather quickly, and spread the compliments.

“It is a really amazing feeling,” Krause said about receiving all of the awards during the last two seasons. “But nothing compares to winning states. Volleyball is a team game and I couldn’t have done anything without my teammates. We pushed each other to get to where we were, and we became really close throughout the years.”

Most of the senior class, which includes Krause, Siena Salvaggio, Avery Perosa, Sam Weber, and Erika Foose also played club ball under Parkland head coach Mike Krause.

Kristin credits her success to her father, who has coached her at high school and club level for the last four years, but also for teaching her the game through the years growing up when Mike coached at Muhlenberg College. She took over the position at Parkland after her older sister Taylor was the team’s starting setter for the three years.

“I got to watch some of my dad’s teams play when I was younger,” said Kristin Krause. “He has always been a great teacher, and between him and Taylor, I’ve learned a lot and got a ton of advice from them two about the game.”

The two Krause girls, in their time at Parkland, were as near to perfect as you could possibly get. They had a combined record of 120-1 in games of five set matches. Not to outdo Taylor, Kristin never lost a match at 52-0. Now they will join each other on the Penn State volleyball team starting in the summer when Kristin reports in June.

“I still have the basketball season [at Parkland] and club volleyball, which goes until May, but as soon as that ends I will be heading to State College,” Krause stated. “I am excited to start the next chapter of my life.”

For her career as a Trojans, Krause finished with 2938 assists, which is second in school history behind Taylor’s 4003. She owns the record for career aces (282), aces in a season (105), total career service points (1082), and career serve attempts (1727).

“Kristin understood how to manage a game,” said Mike Krause. “Kristin could figure out what type of offense would be effective against different teams. She was mentally and physically tough, and never wanted to leave a game. She was the epitome of a leader.”

And to think, as a youth, volleyball wasn’t even her favorite sport.

“I actually really liked soccer and basketball,” Krause said. “I started playing basketball in kindergarten, and I was young with soccer too, which I loved the sport. I didn’t start playing volleyball until the fifth grade.”

Now she will be going to college to play volleyball at the highest level, and for a team that is one year removed from winning a National Championship.

Krause will major in elementary education, and is set to enroll in summer classes and offseason workouts in June.
