Golfers fall to EHS in final league match

Parkland finished the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Golf season last week with a home match against Emmaus.

The Trojans tried to play spoiler as the Hornets needed the win to clinch their fourth straight league title, but Emmaus’ had three players shoot in the 70s en route to a 386-410 win.

That marked the second-closest match the Hornets played this season, as only Nazareth (392-415) got closer than the Trojans’ 24 stroke-margin against Emmaus.

Parkland head coach Mark Levan was satisfied with his young team’s effort as it finished off an 11-4 season.

“It’s pretty much what we reasonably thought would happen going into the season,” he said. “We have one senior (in the top five) and with very limited varsity experience. Next year they’re all back. It’s a good group. They all play well together. They all get along together.”

Levan had a balanced group of players and used multiple line ups this season.

“For the most part we’re averaging pretty well as a team,” he said. “It’s an exciting year. I have 11 kids that can play at any time. Our line up this year has never had the same eight kids.”

In last Tuesday’s match against Emmaus, the Trojans’ were led by Alex Cwienkala’s 77. Nick Kshatri, Ben Tetzlaff and Kevin Zimmerman all came in with 81s, while Eric Johannes rounded out the scoring at 410. John Angelella and Jake Nimeh both shot 91 for Parkland.

Emmaus had Max Harrington (73) , Sam Fritzinger (75) and Kevin Caverly (76) break 80, while Connor Wambold (80) and Blake Kelly (82) finished off the scoring.

The Trojans will send three players to Monday’s District 11 Championship Qualifier at Locust Valley as Cwienkala, Kshatri and Zimmerman are all hoping to earn a spot in the October 12 championship tournament at Schuylkill Country Club in Orwigsburg.
