Fogelsville Elementary celebrates a half-century of offering education

Students and staff at Fogelsville Elementary celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary by making birthday hats and creating ’50s themed decorations, enjoying root beer floats at lunch and broadcasting daily morning announcements focused on the history of the school.

Last Friday’s activities included a staff lunch in the Fogelsville ’50s Diner, where students and staff dressed in ’50s attire and had a birthday party.

There was dancing and singing, a now-and-then video, and a game show about Fogelsville.

The day ended with an evening family sock hop in the gym.

An open house for alumni, former staff members and friends of Fogelsville took place Sept. 26.

Attendees met past principals Joseph Altieri, 1969; Debra Donnelly, 1993; Diane Neikam, 2002; Brenda DeRenzo, 2011; and present Principal Timothy Chorones. Former Principal Viola Wert, 1965, was unable to attend the open house.

Fogelsville Elementary Student Government guides took visitors on tours through-out the school to see the many changes that happened over the past 50 years.

Electronic tags were placed on various items in the school so visitors could access more information via technology.

Artifacts, such as T-shirts, yearbooks and meeting agendas were also on display.

Birthday cake and refreshments were then served in the cafe.
