Dorney plans weekend haunts
A new 3,200-square foot, one-story haunted house will be installed in Dorney Park just in time for the Halloween season.
At the June 3 South Whitehall Township commissioners' meeting, Dorney Park's attorney, Erich Schock, commented on the proposal.
"This will be a permanent structure for seasonal use on weekends," Schock said.
The project includes pavement around the building, sidewalks, queue lines and a service drive. There will be no new bathroom facilities.
Situated inside the park and isolated from homes, the haunted house attraction is not expected to disturb residents with speakers, sound systems or lighting.
Impervious material on an adjacent property at 3747 Dorney Park Road will be removed to offset the increase in impervious cover at the new building.
The proposal uses 0.3 acres of the 187-acre Dorney Park site.
In other business, commissioners reviewed and approved an update to the public safety commission ordinance.
The document specifies 12 members for the commission.
Eight permanent members will be the township's four fire company chiefs, the chief executive officer of the ambulance corps, the township chief of police, the emergency management director and the superintendent of Parkland School District.
Four members at large will be appointed by township commissioners.
The public safety commission is an advisory body to commissioners on matters concerning the health, welfare and safety of township residents.
Members of the commission reviews plans for proposed subdivisions and provide comment on fire codes, traffic safety, fire protection and anything relating to general health and welfare in the planned developments.
