Northampton Legion has high hopes

Northampton's legion baseball team has plenty of familiar faces from the K-Kids memorable run to the District 11 4A baseball semifinals this spring and manager Mike Bodnar hopes that translates into similar results this summer.

Northampton is off to a 3-2 start in NORCO play and the team features plenty of youth from Northampton's baseball program.

The team has a full 18-man roster, which features two 19-year-olds, two high school seniors, followed by underclassmen. That mixture of age groups, as well as overall youth, shouldn't be an issue down the road for Northampton, as Bodnar plans for this team to come together despite having the kids adapt to a new style in the summer.

"I think the kids just need to come around to how I like to play the game, as well as some new positions I have them in," Bodnar said. "I don't think we've played as well as we can, but it'll come around eventually."

This year's roster features the likes of Evan Grube, who is one of the 19-year-olds on the roster, along with fellow veteran Nate Michael.

Collin Shambo (RF), Nick DeMieri (P), Justin Bragg (P) and Ryan Werley (P) are other key members of the legion squad that played big roles during the spring for the high school season.

Having experience from a successful high school season is something that Bodnar hopes will pay dividends down the road.

"I think that experience is immeasurable," he said. "As long as they keep performing the way they did in the spring, we should be fine. The playoffs are always a goal for us as a team, but I don't think just making the playoffs is good enough for us this year. We can do better than that."
