Kids commit to college
Northampton recently held a press conference recognizing 19 student-athletes that will be continuing their athletic and academic endeavors in college.
The K-Kids were led by four honorees, as Makenna Marhefka (East Stroudsburg, field hockey), Hannah Marth (East Stroudsburg, track and field), Michael Scheetz (Notre Dame College (Ohio), wrestling) and Megan Wiest (Drexel, field hockey) led the ceremony introducing Northampton's newest class of signees.
Wiest had her options when deciding where she would want to continue playing Division-I field hockey, including the likes of Virginia and Lafayette, but Drexel ultimately stood out.
"I loved the school and the academics and field hockey were a perfect match for me," Wiest said, as she'll be studying nursing in college. "I think I can contribute to the team and I felt loved from the team and coaches from the beginning. It was really a perfect fit from the beginning."
Michael Scheetz was a late addition to the signing class, as he recently announced his plans to attend Notre Dame College in Ohio to continue his exploits on the mat.
Scheetz didn't mess around when it came to making a decision, as Notre Dame was his first visit and decided that was all he needed to see.
"They're like a family over there and they're good at wrestling too," Scheetz said. "I just wanted to stay with a good wrestling team."
However, being far from home is one of the areas that presents some nerves for Scheetz.
"It's going to be nerve-wracking at first," he said. "It's just a long distance from home. Being six hours from home is pretty far, but I'll get used to it."
The rest of Northampton's signees included: Andrew Martuscelli (Boys Cross Country) – King's College; Justin Nikles (Boys Cross Country) – Eastern University; Kasey Frey (Field Hockey) – Arcadia University; Christian Pinnock (Football) – College of Wooster; Carter Test (Golf) – Elon University; Andrew Schroettner (Boys Soccer) – DeSales University; Yamil Yunez (Boys Soccer) – Rosemont College; Sarah Faust (Girls Volleyball) – Moravian College; Garrett Oplinger (Boys Basketball) – Albright College; Giovanna Martinez (Girls Basketball) – Elizabethtown College; Harley Davidson (Baseball) – Louisburg College; Noah Durnin (Baseball) – Wilkes University; Summer Rivera (Girls Lacrosse) – Wilkes University; Amber Saylor (Softball) – King's College and Alex Ardle (Track & Field) – York College.
