Girls look to future
The playoff scene was not meant to be for Northampton's girls lacrosse program this spring, but just being in the conversation is a sign that things are moving in the right direction for the program.
The Kids (6-10) had hopes of qualifying for the postseason through the final third of their campaign, as they were 4-4 in mid April following a 16-7 victory over Liberty, but a string of five straight losses after that halted the Kids hopes.
Despite the setbacks, head coach Paige Warbrick knows that this season has been a success for girls lacrosse in Northampton.
"We knew we couldn't make the playoffs this year but we wanted to finish our season out strong with second wins against Central and Quakertown," said Warbrick. "This whole season has been hugely successful in our eyes. Moving from one win to several shows obvious progression, but beyond that we have been fortunate to grow true talent on our team.
"We established a significant base of underclassmen players and increased awareness about lacrosse in the process."
Alyssa Tomsic, a sophomore was named as an honorable mention member to the 2015 EPC All-Conference team. Tomsic is a midfielder.
Northampton did defeat Central 15-5 to kickstart a mini two-game winning streak heading into their season ending loss to Moravian.
Putting up a fight against Moravian is something that Warbrick hoped could come to fruition, as Northampton suffered a 19-6 defeat to them earlier in the season.
Still, being able to achieve wins and success is a key stepping-stone for the program heading into the future.
"We have an amazing group of committed student-athletes and hugely supportive parents," said Warbrick. "We had a focused mindset, truly dedicated to teaching fundamentals of the game, embracing sportsmanship and having fun this year. We really look forward to seeing what we can become moving forward."
