Girls lacrosse staying positive

Northampton's girls lacrosse team hasn't had the results one would want to open the season, but the K-Kids changed their luck with a 19-3 win over Central Catholic on Tuesday.

The win marked the first league win in the history of the program.

Alyssa Tomsic led the charge with six goals, while Emily Henry added five goals to complete a momentous victory.

Sitting at 2-3 this week, Paige Warbrick's team looked to turn things around, despite having a plethora of tough contests throughout their schedule.

The Kids have lost to Emmaus 22-4, Parkland 20-3 and Moravian Academy 19-6. Their previous victory came over Quakertown during a 16-11 win.

With home contests against Freedom (1-3) and Southern Lehigh (6-0) this Friday and Saturday, Northampton faces another string of tough battles in the girls lacrosse scene.

Helping the team deal with that includes returning starters Emily Henry (sophomore, midfielder); Alyssa Tomsic (sophomore, midfielder); Brandy Moser (sophomore, midfielder); Katie Wasilko (junior, midfielder); Claire Gogel (junior, midfielder); Sydney Kane (senior, attack); Jessica VanBrunt (senior, defender) and Delaney Haggerty (senior, goalie).

Freshman newcomers Morgan Mullen (midfielder) and Kate Gogel (midfielder) also play into Warbrick's lineup this season.

"We have a young, strong varsity team enthusiastic to play," said Warbrick. "Our team unity is strong, but we need to improve upon our attacking strategies and continuous learning of the game."

Gaining experience from last season is something that Warbrick hopes can translate into better competition for her group as they continue their trek in the spring.

"We are starting from a very different place this season given the experience gained over the course of last year," she said. "The team is physically and mentally prepared to play and excited about what's in store for Northampton lacrosse as a team and program overall."

On the boys side of the coin, the lacrosse team is still searching for their first win of the season, as they've struggled to stay competitive in their four losses, losing those contests to Easton, Quakertown, Nazareth and Moravian Academy by a 44-7 total.

With games against Freedom (0-3) and Liberty (1-1) this week, Northampton will look to crack the win column.
