Kids swim at districts
Northampton High School's boys swim team placed 10th out of 16 teams, and scoring 102 points at the District XI Class AAA Swimming Championships last weekend.
Northampton assistant coach Cullen Mentzel said, "I was happy with all their times. They all dropped times at districts."
Northampton sophomore, Michael Bauer, placed the highest for the Konkrete Kids, coming in fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.18.
"He realized he had the potential to do that, and it paid off last weekend," said Mentzel.
Bauer was also part of the 200 medley relay, along with Kaden Chambers, Steton Weber, and Gavyn Frankenfield, placing eighth in 1:45.74.
Chambers also took seventh place in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.04.
"That was his best time by eight seconds. He took it out fast, held on, stayed consistent, and went for it," Mentzel said.
Frankenfield had a seventh place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.21.
"That was his best time. He had been consistent at :56 and :57," said Mentzel.
Frankenfield dropped four seconds in the 200 IM, placing tenth with a time of 2:06.64.
The 400 free relay team of Bauer, Weber, Frankenfield, and Chambers placed sixth in 3:25.79.
"They were so close to fourth, they would have gotten a medal. Gavin had his fastest split in that race. He really got us back in it," Mentzel said.
Northampton's girls team placed ninth out of 15 teams, scoring 64 points.
Brynn Delvecchio, Rachael Pursell, Kaitlin Nemes, and Kelly Thoma placed eighth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:59.08. Delvecchio, Pursell, Nemes, and Morgan Fehnel placed ninth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:48.41, and they also came in tenth in the 200 medley relay in 2:04.97.
