LCTI students bring home the gold at SkillsUSA contest

Several Lehigh Career and Technical Institute students, whose home school is Parkland, took home medals at the District 11 SkillsUSA Championships Feb. 4 in the Agri-Plex at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

LCTI first place winners from Parkland included: Sean Farley, Mark Kaintz, Aaron Tweed, automated manufacturing technology; Brian Romig, automotive service technology; Cole Isaacs, cake decorating; Dakota VanHorn, power equipment technology and Mason Rumble, welding.

Second-place winners included Spencer Werst, CNC miling; and Devin Moyer, electrical construction wiring.

Third-place winners were Harrison Williams, architectual drafting; Alicia Vicari, early childhood education; Stephanis Shook, health knowledge bowl and Brandon Rauenzahn, technical drafting.

More than 400 students from Lehigh Career and Technical Institute; Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, Career Institute of Technology, Colonial Academy, Monroe Career and Technical Institute and Upper Bucks County Technical School competed in the 53 hands-on skill and leadership competitions .

Students and their families gathered later that evening at Parkland High School to hear the results of the day's competitions and for the winners to receive their medals.

Gold medal winners from all schools will represent District 11 this April at state competition in Hershey.

In addition to awarding medals to the students, SkillsUSA Council partnered with post-secondary educational institutions and area businesses to award more than $60,000 in scholarships and prizes to the medalists of eight competitions.
