A vehicle parked near the U.S. Post Office in Bath dominated last month's council meeting.

"I've been having a lot of complaints about up at the post office when you turn onto Barrall [Street] off Chestnut," borough President Robert Fields said. "There's a cutout for handicaps that's painted blue for a handicap spot, but that was actually meant to be a 15-minute parking for people to park and go into the post office. But now there's a car parked there almost 24 hours a day because it has a handicap sticker, and that's not what that spot was meant for."

Borough Manager Thomas Petrucci noted there is no ordinance currently on the books reserving a handicap spot in that area.

"So it's actually illegal," Fields commented.

"My suggestion is to paint it over and maybe put up a 15-minute parking sign to go in and out of the post office," Fields recommended.

Other council members were hesitant to agree with Fields suggestion.

"I think we have to do a little bit more research on it before we just paint it over," Vice President Mark Saginario said.

It is not known who parks in the handicap spot, but the vehicle does have a handicap plate.

Councilwoman Carol Bear-Heckman asked other council members if the parking lot next to the post office has a handicap spot.

"I don't think they do," Councilwoman Jennifer George said.

If council decides to place a 15-minute parking spot next to the post office, an ordinance would have to be drafted.
