As Business Manager John Vignone has been so successful guiding Parkland School District through difficult financial times, the board extended his contract to Jan. 29, 2021.
Vignone looks for sources of increased revenue while working with staff to reduce expenditures to minimize tax increases. At a recent meeting, District Superintendent Richard Sniscak commented on his work.
"John is a tremendous asset to the Parkland School District," Sniscak said.
Vignone returned the compliment.
"I have as much passion for my job today as I ever did," Vignone said. "I am glad to contribute to the school district."
In other matters, the board approved the Edmentum Product and Services agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 at a cost of $30,500.
The item is an online remedial tool for students in Algebra I and biology.
"Sometimes it helps students to see things in a different way," Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rod Troutman said.
The board also approved a Schoology Agreement with CLIU 21 at a cost of $6,650. The product is an online learning management system for students.
Noting the success of the special education program undertaken with Lehigh Carbon Community College for young adults ages 18-21, the board approved an additional day for 2014-15 at a district cost of $1,750.
In his legislative report, board member Bob Bold said there is a proposal in the commonwealth to allow teachers to carry weapons in the schools.
Bold, who lives across from Schnecksville Elementary, said he can hardly imagine Principal Karen Dopera toting a pistol around the building.
