Whitehall Township has a name for its proposed latest park, Clear Channel Communications Central Park.
The grounds currently consist of nothing but brush and open space but that could begin to change next year.
"In spring 2015, there is just some grading that will go on," said Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr.
It is the start, although very small and limited, for recreational development that could take place later on 18-acre site. The plans do not include a playground setting but rather soccer and field hockey fields, restrooms and a refreshment stand with a kitchen, Hozza said.
The timing for when the athletic fields would be ready is tied to the availability of state grants to fund the projects.
"We will next year submit grant applications to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Natural Resources," Hozza said.
Clear Channel, a national media organization, donated the 18-acre tract to the township with the understanding that Clear Channel Communications would be part of the park's name. Clear Channel has several radio stations which operate from studios in Whitehall, off MacArthur Road and Route 22.
